Back Pain

Lumbago (back pain) is defined as pain in the lower back, or, more specifically, in the midline between the costal margin and the inferior gluteal fold. Back pain is a common problem that affects most people at some point in their life. The pain may be acute or chronic, constant or intermittent. It may also be described as a dull ache, a sharp pain, or a burning sensation that can radiate to the buttocks and legs. It may be associated with weakness, numbness, or tingling sensations.

Lower back pain can affect anyone at any age, although its highest prevalence is between the ages of 35 and 55 years. The use of natural health products will provide symptomatic relief, help strengthen the body's defence mechanisms, and aid the body’s detoxification and drainage systems in the elimination of various toxic by-products caused by microorganisms and pharmaceutical drugs.

The benefit of different natural health products and therapies, including medications that act in a bio-regulating way, in treating mild-to-moderate back pain has been well established. Unlike conventional medications, natural painkillers won't upset the stomach. Willow bark – the active ingredient similar to that in aspirin – is gentler on the stomach and is just as effective in pain management as NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Bromelain (derived from pineapples) and the Ayurveda herb boswellia provide anti-inflammatory benefits and pain relief also. Another effective natural remedy for lumbago is fresh ginger – simply dice a slice into a cup of hot water and enjoy.

Nina's Health Protocol:

  • While diet alone cannot cure back pain, maintaining a healthy diet can support overall health, promote a healthy weight, and provide nutrients that contribute to strong bones and muscles.
  • Include foods with anti-inflammatory properties to help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.
  • Calcium and Magnesium: These minerals are essential for maintaining strong bones and muscles.
  • Maintain a healthy weight or work towards achieving a healthy weight if overweight.
