The formula also contains subtle levels of bicarbonate buffers to provide gentle relief from excess acids while preserving HCl activity. Pure licorice is well known for its ability to soothe inflamed throat tissues and calm the upper GI tract but it contains one compound, glycyrrhetinic acid, known to cause sodium/fluid retention and increases blood pressure when consumed over time. Our formulation includes Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) which has the glycyrrhetinic acid removed to maximize benefits and reduce risk. Studies found that DGL can stimulate production of protective mucus and this helps heal the stomach lining from damage caused by corrosive bile acids, aspirin and other medications.
