Creatine is naturally produced by the body, mainly in the liver from the amino acids arginine, methionine and glycine. It is stored in the major muscles including cardiac and skeletal tissue, from the liver it is transported in the blood to muscle cells where it is phosphorylated to form creatine phosphate (CP). Creatine phosphate is used to maintain higher levels of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) a universal energy molecule.

Creatine phosphate absorbs the hydrogen irons released by muscles in the form of lactic acid, consequently reducing exercise fatigue and maximising physical performance.  Intense anaerobic exercise such as weight lifting and sprinting etc depletes ATP and greatly increases demand for the body’s creatine.  A daily intake of at least 3g is recommended for those who partake in intense physical performance to obtain beneficial effect.
