Vision Plus now includes the exciting, new macular carotenoid extract called Lutemax 2020. Designed to support eye health, it includes vitamin C, zinc and copper, together with carotenoids important for eye health – lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin. It also contains good levels of taurine, lipoic acid and bilberry – powerful ingredients to support healthy eyes.

The retina is the light sensitive part of the eye, and the most delicate part of the retina is the macula, that is most prone to damage from high energy blue and UV light. Lutein is an important carotenoid found to be concentrated on the outer edges of the macula, RR-zeaxanthin in the mid-outer and RS (meso)-zeaxanthin in the central macula. Studies consistently show that all three work as antioxidants, and may help to protect against oxidative stress. They may also help to protect against high energy light.

Our Vision Plus eye health supplement contains Lutemax® 2020 which provides all three macular carotenoids, lutein and enhanced levels of both zeaxanthin isomers – RR-zeaxanthin and RS (meso)-zeaxanthin. Lutemax 2020 contains all three macular carotenoids at the same 5:1 ratio found in nature.

Vision Plus features 500mg vitamin C, together with zinc and vitamin E, nutrients studied extensively for their role in eye health. These nutrients are all potent protectors of cells from oxidative stress (free radical damage). The retina of the eye contains a high concentration of zinc, indicating the importance of zinc to eye function and the maintenance of normal vision. Zinc is also involved in the process of cell division, which is very important for the cells within the eye that are constantly being replaced.

Vision Plus provides 200mg taurine, of which high concentrations are found in the retina. Low levels of taurine can lead to significant alterations in the structure and function of the retina.

Also included in Vision Plus are lipoic acid and bilberry. Bilberry has a long traditional use for the treatment of eye conditions. Bilberry may also improve vein health and the microcirculation to the ocular region (eyes).
