Viridian’s Organic Raw Coconut Oil is a premium quality product which is handmade in the Philippines using traditional methods. The coconuts are hand selected, using good quality and mature, fresh whole coconuts. The nuts are then shelled, and the meat is passed through a cold press expeller, the oil is collected, and water removed. The oil is further filtered to produce a polished water-free, high quality, organic coconut oil. This process maintains the natural elements of the coconut and so is referred to as ‘virgin’. Non-virgin and non-organic coconut oils may include processes such as refinement, alongside bleaching and deodorizing. Furthermore, all the coconuts are sourced from within a 100km radius of the factory, ensuring not only optimum freshness but the supply of local jobs and lessening the impact on the environment.
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature and melts at around 25 degrees. When solid it is a translucent white in colour, turning to clear when melted. It has a slight nutty aroma with a sweet and salty taste. Coconut oil is rich in medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), comprising of 9 MCTs that total 93% volume.
Traditional use of coconut was as an Indian Ayurvedic medicinal food, and consequently the coconut tree was referred to as ‘Kalpavriksha’; the all giving tree. This versatile oil can be used in a myriad of ways, including topical application onto the skin, eating as a solid fat, and used for baking and cooking in place of other oils or fats.
