The herb Indian homes keep by the front door, now as a capsule.
SUMMARY
Organic tulsi leaf at 500mg a capsule, dried and ground whole. Tulsi and holy basil are the same plant. Ayurveda keeps it for everyday steadiness rather than for a particular occasion, and describes it as light, warming and clarifying, a herb that lifts rather than settles. Certified organic by the Soil Association.
LONG DESCRIPTION
The low hum of a busy few months, and the sense that it has been going on a while. Most people come to tulsi in exactly that stretch.
Tulsi is the herb India keeps for exactly that kind of stretch, and it has been kept that way for thousands of years. Ayurveda keeps it for everyday steadiness rather than for a particular occasion. It grows in a pot by the front door, traditionally an earthen one in the middle of the courtyard, and gets picked for tea most mornings. It's an ordinary, everyday plant rather than a special occasion one, and that is really the whole point of it. If a capsule suits your morning better than a teapot, this is the same leaf, dried and ground.
Tulsi, or holy basil
It's Ocimum sanctum, and there are three kinds: Krishna tulsi with purple flowers, Rama tulsi with white, and the wild Vana tulsi. Holy basil is the English name for the same plant.
How Ayurveda places it
Botanically it's a basil, a close cousin of the sweet basil in your kitchen and quite distinct in scent. In the tradition's terms it's light, warming and clarifying, a herb that lifts rather than settles you, which is why it belongs at the start of the day.
Whole leaf, dried and ground
The leaves are dried and ground whole and go straight into the capsule. 500mg a capsule. One ingredient, and the capsule that holds it.
It's an everyday herb in India, taken all year round rather than in courses, and we'd suggest treating it the same way.

Ayurvediq began on a turmeric farm in India. Talia and Graham went out to see where it grew, came back with a good deal more than turmeric, and the range grew from there. We still work with the same growing communities. If you would like to know more about a particular herb, or which of these might suit you, write to us at support@ayurvediq.com. Where these come from is the part we know inside out.
