Sometimes spelled shilajeet and listed botanically as Asphaltum punjabianum, it's a mineral rather than a plant. It seeps out of rock faces high in the Himalaya over a very long period and is collected by hand from the mountainside. The tradition describes it as warming and penetrating. A powder rather than a resin If you've looked at shilajit before, you've probably seen it sold as a sticky black resin in a jar, to be measured off a spoon and stirred into a drink.
