Gotu kola has been used for thousands of years in India, China and Indonesia. The herb is considered a weed to most of South and South Eastern Asia. One only needs to drop a single leaf on a patch of untended soil and soon Gotu kola will be shooting itself over the ground, the plant certainly has extraordinary powers vitality and growth. The herb is highly regarded throughout Asia, and is closely associated with practice of Ayurveda in India, a life science in pursuit of knowledge, life and longevity. The plant is best harvested when the climate is at its warmest, but as a tropical plant it can be harvested at almost any time. The whole plant can be used but we always harvest the aerial parts to make the best infusion. As a member of the Apiaceae family, a close relation of parsley and carrot, Gotu Kola is found in many asian dishes including Sambol, a spicy relish made with vegetables fruit and spices, similar to Tabbouleh but replacing the parsley with Gotu Kola. The infusion is mild to slightly bitter but has no aroma whatever. It is a natural partner to Lemon Balm, Green tea or Ginseng.
