Cystitis

Cystitis (bladder infection)

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder and/or urethra (the tube through which urine passes from the bladder and out of the body). The main cause is usually an E.coli infection and symptoms include frequent urination and painful burning during urination. If left untreated, it can lead to a kidney infection, so you should always consult your doctor when symptoms develop.

The primary goal in the natural approach to treat bladder infections is to enhance the immune system and other protective factors against infection. Sufferers should drink at least 64 ounces of water daily to increase urine flow and combat cystitis. Citrate salts relieve cystitis by alkalinising the urine and reducing the burning sensation. Cranberry juice has been shown to be quite effective in several clinical studies.

Nina's Health Protocol:

  • Staying well-hydrated is important to help flush bacteria out of the urinary tract.
  • Cranberries contain compounds that may help prevent bacteria from adhering to the bladder walls.
  • Avoid Irritating Foods and Beverages. Consider including probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi in your diet.
  • Limit Sugar Intake.
